While vans are our specialty, we also work on recreational vehicles of all kinds. We build vans for customers locally in the Flathead Valley, Kalispell, Whitefish, Big Fork, and more! We have also worked with non local customers throughout the United States!

My Story

My name is Mitchell Kauffman. I am the owner/ founder of Big Mountain Vans. I began my career as a mechanical engineer, but when my desire for adventure became impossible to ignore, I left my job and built my first conversion—a 2002 Bluebird short bus. After spending two years on the road, I settled in Whitefish, Montana, and started Big Mountain Vans. With over four years of full-time mobile living experience, I’ve weathered cold winters in Colorado, Utah, and Montana, as well as scorching desert summers. That firsthand experience has given me a deep understanding of what it takes to build a true four-season, off-grid capable van designed for real-world adventure.
